Medium’s March pivot, just the latest in a series that have proven materially destructive to publications and writers many times over, finally prodded me to make a long-planned move to gabestein.com, built on the open-source publishing infrastructure I work on daily.
Come say hi over there, and feel free to reach out if you’re interested in PubPub. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not the perfect blogging engine, but like Medium, it features a spiffy WYSIWYM editor, inline comments, and you don’t have to maintain a server. Unlike Medium, it’s run by a non-profit org serving the public good, and as a result its development is largely community-driven rather than profit-driven.
